Annual Membership Campaign
Targets Local Municipalities
In an April mailing to kick off its annual
membership campaign, GSWA invited some 30,000 local residents to join with the 2,500
current members in helping to preserve and enhance Great Swamp watershed.
The mailing reached residents of Bedminster, Chatham Borough and Township,
Long Hill, Madison, Mendham Borough and Township, Morris- town, Short Hills and Summit.
(Other local towns will be canvassed at a later date.) It cited the character of local
towns and villages, drinking-water quality, and recreational opportunities as reasons for
supporting GSWAs commitment to local environmental preservation.
As of April 27, the campaign had brought in about 100 new members,
according to Membership Director Gina Snell. Based on those results, she predicted an
eventual total of about 200 new members.
Why a campaign to increase membership? Three reasons, according to Ms.
Snell: "First, dues from members support over 45% of our projects and programs. Then
theres strength in numbers as we advocate environmental values in public forums.
Finally, we value the growing cadre of members who serve as volunteers."
GSWA offers membership in seven categories: Steward ($1,000); Benefactor
($500); Patron ($250); Sponsor ($100); Supporter ($50); Member ($35); and Senior/Student
($10).
Current members can help the campaign by enlisting friends and
neighbors as new members. Membership is gained by sending a check to the Great Swamp
Watershed Association, P.O. Box 300, New Vernon, NJ 07976, or by calling 973-966-1900. Use
