Recent Grants Support Watershed
Association
Grants from eight area foundations over the past six
months are helping the Watershed Association to extend and expand its environmental
programs, according to William A. Aiello, Board Chairman.
Foundations currently provide a little over a third of
the Association's annual financial support, with most of the remaining funds coming from
individual members' contributions.
"These grants will significantly increase our
ability to preserve open space, protect animal habitats and serve as environmental
advocates before local planning and zoning boards," Aiello said. "We're
extremely grateful to these and other foundations for the critical support they
provide."
The foundations and their areas of support are:
The Michele and Agnese Cestone Foundation, based in
Chatham, $17,550 for the protection of animal habitat through local land acquisition;
The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Morristown, $20,000
for a program to promote better understanding of the technologies, legal precedents and
land-use ordinances that can be used to assure environmental preservation;
The F. M. Kirby Foundation, Morristown, $6,000 to
defray operating expenses;
The Fred C. Rummel Foundation, Westfield, $5,000 for
the Association's Outreach and Education program;
The Leavens Foundation, Long Valley, $10,000 for
general operating expenses;
The Summit Area Public Foundation, $4930, to support
the ecological restoration of the Association's Conservation Area;
The Union Foundation, Warren, $5,000 for the
Association's endowment; and
The Victoria Foundation, Montclair, $20,000 to support
the acquisition of wetlands in the Great Swamp watershed. |
