Streamways Project Begins with Landowner Meetings

In March, GSWA began presentations to introduce its Streamways project to watershed residents whose properties abut Primrose Brook and the Upper Passaic River.

The first presentation took place on March 12th, when GSWA presented its program to local environmental groups and municipal open space committees. Those who attended expressed strong support for the program.

The second presentation, held on March 14th, was directed at streamside property owners in Mendham Borough and Mendham Township, who were shown a video detailing methods of land preservation, and given information on integrated pest management and "best management practices".

Two additional presentations have taken place on April 4th in Bernards Township and on April 11th in Harding Township. Local landowners of streamside properties spoke at each presentation. John Malay, chairman of the Open Space Advisory Committee of Bernards Township also spoke about the proposed stream buffer ordinance in Bernards Township as well as procedures for land preservation which were developed by the Open Space Committee.

Copies of GSWA’s booklet "A Landowner’s Guide to Saving Streamways" may be obtained free of charge by calling the office at 973-966-1900.
