Morris Township’s definition of open space: the funds accumulated by the Open Space Trust Fund can be used for the “acquisition of land or development rights in land, or as a down payment for the issuance of bonds of the same purpose at the discretion of the Township Committee.”
Annual open space tax: $.02 per $100 of assessed land.
Acres of land preserved with open space funds:
- 7.5% of total township acreage is open space (21% of this is protected as parklands, whether federally, county, or municipally).
- 74 acres federally preserved, 1,395 acres with county fund, and 492 acres with township funds.
- Morris Township also contains 120 acres of farmland.
- 25% of the township is available for open space (approximately 2,703 acres).
