Group Formed To Protect Great Brook

A group of concerned citizens has come together to form "Morristown Friends of Great Brook," because they are alarmed about the condition of the headwaters of Great Brook. Morristown Friends of Great Brook is open to anyone interested in protecting and preserving this important stream that is one of five streams flowing into Great Swamp.

According to Julia Somers, Executive Director of Great Swamp Watershed Association, the organization was formed to promote protection of the headwaters of Great Brook, promote the creation of a greenway along Great Brook, and to pursue acquisition of property and conservation easements along Great Brook.

Thomas Hollo was elected Chairman of Morristown Friends of Great Brook and said: "Our newly formed organization results from our concerns about the quality of water in Great Brook. Additionally, we are already witnessing flooding related to excessive development and as a community we’re committed to overseeing and protecting the headwaters of Great Brook. Because it feeds water into Great Swamp, developing greenways and protecting the stream banks along Great Brook is essential and will be our primary focus."

The next meeting of Morristown Friends of Great Brook will be held on Tuesday, Oct 1, 2002. Anyone interested in becoming a member or attending the meeting should contact Karen Patterson at 973-966-1900 or kpatters@greatswamp.org.
