‘Do the Swamp Thing’ Returns
Now in its third year, ‘Do
the Swamp Thing’ is a month-long celebration of the recreational and
educational resources abundant in the Great Swamp watershed. From April 26th through May 24th the Watershed
Association will be publicizing events at venues throughout the watershed.
A wonderful celebration
of the region, ‘Do the Swamp Thing’ is organized by Great Swamp Watershed
Association and sponsored by Kings Super Markets Inc., PSEG, and Recorder
Community Newspapers. This year’s
events highlight family activities and raises awareness of the importance of
environmental conservation and historic preservation. The “Do the Swamp Thing” kick-off will take place at 1
p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at the Somerset County Environmental Education Center
with appearances by dignitaries including Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen.
Following the opening ceremony, there will be a preview of the 23rd
annual Carving & Wildlife Art Show and Sale.
According to Cheryl Good, Manager of Community Relations at Kings, “We are so pleased to have been a part of ‘Do the Swamp Thing’ since the beginning. It has evolved into a really special celebration of spring and the fabulous natural and historic resources in our area. Kings is delighted to be a sponsor of the special events at many of the historical sites and parks, like Washington’s Headquarters, the Morris County Outdoor Education Center, and the Somerset County Environmental Education Center.”
Elizabeth Parker, Co-Publisher and Executive Editor for Recorder Community Newspapers commented: “Participating in this partnership has been very satisfying to us and we are delighted with the scope of ‘Do the Swamp Thing.’ Great Swamp Watershed Association is dedicated to protecting the treasures of this region and it is our pleasure to support that work.”
There will be a drawing for three prizes on June 3, 2003. Entry is free and can be done at any Kings store or on the Great Swamp Watershed Association website, www.greatswamp.org. First prize is a one-minute shopping spree at Kings, second prize is a pair of Nikon “naturalist” binoculars, donated by NJ Audubon Society, and third prize is a Northface daypack donated by Blue Ridge Mountain Sports.
