Great Swamp Watershed Association Announces April Events

What’s going on around the swamp? Check out these April events:

Sunday, April 1—Conservation Management Area Hike, 10 am to 12 noon. No fooling! Spend some time with us and learn about the ecology and restoration of this 50-acre forested site owned and managed for wildlife diversity by the staff and volunteers of GSWA. Bring your boots, binoculars, wildlife guides and a snack. We hope to see or hear wintering birds, early calling frogs and more. Meet at the Wildlife Conservation Management Area, Tiger Lily Lane, Harding Township. Fee: $8 Members. $10 Non Members. Children 5 and under free. Pre-registration required. Visit www.greatswamp.org and click on our secure Event Registration page. Or contact Hazel England at 973-538-3500, x.20, hazele@greatswamp.org.

Monday, April 30—Workshop for Educators: Schoolyard Habit Enhancement, 9 am to 3 pm. Learn how to enhance your school grounds to create habitats for wildlife, improve water quality and offer students areas to study without costly field trips. You don’t need a country setting for habitat enhancement to work. Designed for K-12 educators in all subject areas, this workshop, co-sponsored by GSWA and the Morris County Park Commission, explores the process of creating an outdoor place for learning, including mapping, site design and correlation to your existing curriculum. Earn 6 NJDOE credits. Fee: $10. Includes breakfast, refreshments. Pre-registration required. Call the Morris County Park Commission Outdoor Education Center at 973-635-9391.

For more information about these events, visit the website at www.greatswamp.org, or contact Hazel England, hazele@greatswamp.org, 973-538-3500, extension 20.

Founded in 1981, the Great Swamp Watershed Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the water and land of the 36,000-acre watershed region in Morris and Somerset counties. We work to maintain the beauty and health of our open space, and to monitor and protect five streams — Loantaka Brook, Great Brook, Primrose Brook, Black Brook, and the headwaters of the Passaic River — which feed the Passaic River, providing drinking water to more than a million people.
