Great Swamp Watershed Association Hosting Winter Night Hike

Morristown — The Great Swamp Watershed Association is hosting a Full Moon Hike on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the beautiful Cross Estate in Jockey Hollow, Morristown Historical Park, from 6-7:30 p.m.

There will be plenty of nature to learn about on this guided moonlight hike around the Great Swamp watershed. You may hear screech or barred owls, see flying squirrels, and maybe even experience coyotes calling in the distance. This is an opportunity for people of all ages to explore the watershed by the light of the moon, discovering the unusual sights and sounds of the wildlife that thrive in our watershed region.

The Great Swamp Watershed Association works year round protecting the water and land in the region for the benefit of people who live, work and play here, as well as for the over one million people who obtain their drinking water from the Passaic River. GSWA is the member-supported non-profit organization that monitors the five streams in the watershed, educating students, teachers, homeowners and local government on ways we can all help protect the water we drink and the places we love.

This program is free for members. For non-members, the fee is $10 per adult, $5 for each child five and over, and $30 per family. Pre-register by visiting www.greatswamp.org or call GSWA’s Event Info line at 973-538-3500 x22.

The organization works to maintain the beauty and health of open space, and to monitor and protect five streams: Loantaka Brook, Great Brook, Primrose Brook, Black Brook, and the Upper Passaic — which feed into the Passaic River and providing drinking water to more than a million people.
