Sally Rubin

Sally Rubin, Executive Director,

Sally Rubin, a retired attorney committed to improving the quality of life in New Jersey through civic activity, joined GSWA in January, 2008. A lifelong resident of Somerset Hills, she brings a wealth of community involvement and experience to the position. She recently finished serving her second term as a member of the Bedminster Township Committee, and was also a member of the Bedminster Planning Board for six years. Additionally. Ms. Rubin previously served on the Boards of Education for Bedminster and the Somerset Hills School District. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in psychology and holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.


Hazel England

Hazel England, Director of Education & Outreach,

Hazel joined the staff in September of 2004 after working for 9½ years as a Naturalist for Somerset County Park Commission’s Environmental Education Center. Prior to that she worked as the Executive Director of the Whites Bog Preservation Trust in the Pine Barrens. She conducted programs for students of all ages and designed watershed education programs. Hazel was born and brought up in Scotland and England, received her undergraduate degree in Zoology and Botany from the University of Dundee, Scotland, and her masters in Ecology and Environmental Management from the University of Aberdeen.


Laura Kelm

Laura Kelm, Director of Water Quality Programs,

Laura joined the staff in April 2011 and is responsible for all water quality programs. She received her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and her master’s degree in Environmental Management from Duke University, where she concentrated on coastal environmental management and water quality. Laura is excited to combine her interests in the environment, science, and public involvement to help improve water quality in the Great Swamp Watershed.


Steve Howard

Steve joined the staff in 2010. Passionate about the environment, Steve brings a wealth of experience in development for environmental organizations, having held senior management positions with the New Jersey Conservation Foundation (NJCF), the National Parks Conservation Association in Washington, DC and The Wilderness Society, also in DC.


Steve Reynolds

Steven F. Reynolds, Director of Communications & Membership, sreynolds@greatswamp.org

Steve joined GSWA in June 2011 following similar engagements with Waterkeeper Alliance in New York City and the Anacostia Watershed Society in Washington, DC and Maryland. Prior to enlisting in the environmental movement, he worked for the U.S. Government on several Health and Human Services communications programs, including the Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma Associated with Mental Illness. In the 1990s, he spent four years providing I.T. services at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ. He holds a Masters degree in Folklore and Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelors degree in Anthropology from Drew University in Madison, NJ. Here at GSWA, steve is responsible for maintaining print and electronic publications like the Across The Watershed newsletter and the GSWA website. He also manages media relations for the organization and assists the fundraising team.


Sue Levine

Sue Levine, Finance Director,
slevine@greatswamp.org

Sue joined the staff in July 2011. She is responsible for the organization’s financial management. In addition, she is the staff liaison to the Board of Trustees. Sue has an extensive background in sales and financial management in petro chemicals and mortgage banking, and has held senior management positions in each of these areas. She holds a B.A. in Economics and Finance from Rutgers University and a M.B.A. from Rutgers University.


Carlos Pomares

Carlos Pomares, Director of Institutional Relations,

Carlos earned his BA in History at Caldwell College in 1993 and his MA in Museum Professions at Seton Hall University in 1996. He joined the staff in 2012 to help strengthen existing and create new relationships within the foundation and corporate communities. His work experience includes the Cuban Artists Fund and the Montclair Historical Society, both of which he served as executive director. He has also served as a professor of history and political science at Caldwell College and William Paterson University.


Kelly Martin

Kelly Martin, Membership Associate,
kmartin@greatswamp.org

A recent Temple University graduate, Kelly joined the staff in 2012 after volunteering to help plan and organize the annual Gala. Previously, she worked as an environmental educator at the Philadelphia Zoo and as a reptile keeper teaching the younger generations about the importance of environmental conservation. Currently, she is in charge of maintaining the GSWA’s membership database.


Debbie Rice

Debbie Rice, Office Manager,

Debbie joined the staff in May of 2011 and provides our administrative support and special-event planning. Her myriad of experience in general contracting, medical publishing and pharmaceutical advertising enables her to keep pace with our busy staff and keep our office running smoothly.
