Volunteer
Opportunities at
Great Swamp Watershed Association
Keeping Your Feet Dry
Local area Boy Scouts under the
supervision of Eagle Scout candidate Greg Maines
cleared a path, constructed and placed this
boardwalk through a wet section of the GSWA
Conservation and Restoration Area. This
increases our trail length and opens new
portions of the site to visitors.

The Education and Outreach Committee is recruiting volunteers
who would be interested in assisting the staff with in-classroom
presentations using our Terrene Institute Watershed Model. The
staff has developed an excellent watershed demonstration which
they have taken on
the road to a
number of watershed schools this year, but we need volunteers to
help us reach more schools next year. Contact Hazel
England at ext.20.

As our organization grows our staff is getting busier all
the time. We are desperately in need of people to assist in the
office on a regular basis. We need help answering the phones,
doing light typing and photocopying, and other general office
work. Contact Lee Goyeneche
at Ext. 15.

Anyone who would be willing to either follow development issues
in their local newspaper or attend their local planning board or
board of adjustment meetings and report back on pertinent issues
is welcome. We especially need help from Morristown, Mendham
Borough, and Mendham Township. Contact John
Malay at Ext. 11.

We are always looking for a person with an interest in grant

For those who like to get their feet wet, GSWA has an ongoing
stream monitoring program. We are measuring water volume,
collecting and identifying macro invertebrate samples, and
collecting water quality samples following storm events. Stream
Team members
meet monthly and new members are always welcome. We pair new
volunteers with veterans to that you can benefit from their
training and experience. Contact Kelley
Curran at Ext. 16.

For those interested in outdoor volunteer opportunities we
periodically organize work
days at GSWA's
23 acre conservation land area in Harding Township, or along the
trails of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. We need help
removing invasive plant species, maintaining or clearing trails,
and enhancing wildlife habitat. Contact Hazel
England at Ext. 20.
