Julia Somers, Executive Director,

Julia
has been the Executive Director of the Watershed Association since
1992. Under her guidance, the organization has grown from 400 to 2,500
members and has seen its operating budget increase from $30,000 to
$450,000. She sits on the Steering Committee of the NJDEP Watershed
Management Area (WMA) #6, is the Chair of WMA #6 Open Space Committee,
and is on the Advisory Committee of the Ten Towns Great Swamp
Watershed Management Committee. She is a board member of the New
Jersey Environmental Lobby.

Patsy Clew, Director of Membership and Heritage
Programs,
pclew@greatswamp.org
Patsy joined the staff in the summer of 2003 and targets opportunities to expand the membership and enhance the visibility of the Watershed Association. Previously, she had volunteered at the Watershed Association and worked as a chief administrative officer for J.P. Morgan. Patsy holds an M.B.A. from New York University and a B.S.B.A. from Ohio State University.

Kelley Curran, Project

Kelley is a former volunteer who joined the Watershed Association staff in January 2004. She has several years of experience in environmental consulting and currently directs our stream monitoring program. Her current focus is the Loantaka Brook Adopt-A-Stream project that seeks to improve the water quality of the most degraded stream in the watershed. Kelley holds an M.S. in Environmental Science from the NJ Institute of Technology and a B.S. in the same discipline from Kutztown University.

Hazel England, Director of Outreach
& Education, hazele@greatswamp.org
Hazel
joined the staff in September of 2004 after working for 9 1/2
years as a Naturalist for Somerset County Park Commission's
Environmental Education Center. Prior to that she worked as
the Executive Director of the Whites Bog Preservation Trust in
the Pine Barrens. She conducted programs for students of all ages
and designed watershed education programs. Hazel was born
and brought up in Scotland and England, received her
undergraduate in Zoology and Botany from the University of
Dundee, Scotland and her masters in Ecology and Environmental
Management from the University of Aberdeen. She is married
with two daughters. |

Sharon McCann, Office Manager & Finance
Director, smccann@greatswamp.org
Sharon joined the staff in May, 2005. She handles
the organization's financial and budgeting needs and acts as
staff liaison to the Board of Trustees.

Ruth Kerkeslager, Development Director,
ruthk@greatswamp.org
Ruth Kerkeslager, a longtime Madison resident and graduate of Georgia State University, brings extensive experience in strategic planning, finance, and marketing. She has previously worked as a consultant and as vice president for corporate strategy for Lucent Technologies.
Ruth comes to GSWA with a diverse and successful history of community service. She currently serves as recording secretary of the Garden Club of Madison, vice-chairwoman and secretary of the Madison Shade Tree Management Board, committee co-chair for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and on the Friends of Madison Public Library board of directors. As the Millennium Gardens project leader for the Madison Public Library, she raised over $80,000 in donations.

John Malay, Director of Communications
& Technical Coordinator,

John joined the Watershed Association team in the fall of 2001. John is in
charge of all our communications efforts, press relations and graphic design. In
his spare time (!) he provides technical support for office systems, email and
networking. He is the webmaster of greatswamp.org. As the Watershed
Association's GIS (Geographic Information Systems) analyst, he fulfills requests
for maps and other spatial data from local municipalities. He is currently on
the township committee in Bernards. John holds a B.A. in History from Gettysburg
College.
