SUMMARY:Fall Community Clean-up at the CMA
DESCRIPTION:Earn some bonus points and pre-work off your Thanksgiving calories. We could use some help sprucing up the CMA for the winter. We spent a lot of time this summer building and replacing boardwalks and now the scrap wood needs to be hauled back out of the woods. Additionally\, we need to clean up the trails and prepare them for winter hiking! Feel free to wander the CMA when we’re done.  This is a fun workday that will leave you feeling satisfied that you have earned that extra piece of Thanksgiving pie! \nBe sure to wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather.

SUMMARY:Climate Proof Your Garden - Free Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Please note: registration closes September 20 @ 5 PM \n  \nAs extreme weather events and warmer temperatures become more frequent\, it’s time to start thinking about ways you can fortify your outdoor space. At this Zoom webinar\, you will learn about ways to “climate proof” your garden including Xeriscaping water conservation strategies. Xeriscaping is the practice of designing landscapes to reduce or eliminate the need for irrigation. Xeriscaped landscapes need little or no water beyond what the natural climate provides. We will also discuss the best plant choices to help your garden weather the storms and droughts. Implementing these strategies can also allow more biodiversity\, where your plants will flourish and attract more pollinators like bees\, birds and butterflies! \nYou will receive the webinar Zoom link via email prior to the start of the program.

DESCRIPTION:If you cannot attend\, please email mhertgen@GreatSwamp.org\nto cancel so we can invite the next person on the waitlist email. \n  \nCelebrate the first evening of Summer\, also the longest day of the year\, with a hike through the woods of historic Jockey Hollow. SUMMARY:CANCELLED- Volunteer for CMA Stewardship Day - June 21st
DESCRIPTION:Due to scheduling issues with our staff\, we will have to cancel the June 21st CMA stewardship day. \n If you are still interested in volunteering\, we have 2 other CMA Stewardship days on July 7th and July 14th \nReady to get a little dirty and sweaty in the swamp? Need community service hours? College students\, are you looking for something worthy to add to your resume?! \nJoin us on Wednesday at the GSWA Conservation Management Area (CMA) to help us steward the land. We will work from 12:30PM to 3:30PM and enjoy some well-earned snacks provided by GSWA Director of Land Stewardship\, Hazel England. We could really use your help getting our CMA tidied up by helping us with the following tasks: Carry in lumber • Build and elevate boardwalks which allows hikers to get through flooded areas • Clear branches and limbs from recent storms • Remove invasive plants • Spread woodchips on our trails. \nBe sure to wear long pants\, long sleeves\, and hiking boots or old shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Bring a hat and a reusable water bottle. We will provide bug spray\, sun block\, gloves\, and all tools you will need. \nYou’ll work hard\, but will also share in some laughs\, and enjoy delicious snacks. What better way to spend a Wednesday afternoon? See you there!
