Join us as Pete Axelrod of Wild Birds Unlimited reviews the how-to's, providing tips on using bird feeders, water and shelter to attract native birds. Also learn how to discourage the presence of nuisance animals. Come learn how to make your yard bird-friendly.

Dog Hike at the CMA

Calling all pooches! Grab your family and a leash, and c’mon out to the CMA for a much-needed, mid-winter hike. We know you’re ready to get some fresh air and sniff new smells. This is your day! We only ask that you play nice with other dogs, remain on your leash for the full hike, and ask your humans to bring you some water pet waste bags. There is a limit of 15 pups (but no limit on the number of humans) so shake a leg and register today! This event is free for GSWA members, non-members: suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Sunday Hike Series: Looking for a relaxing outdoor activity? Join us for a leisurely, late-winter stroll through Hedden Park, a beautiful piece of the Morris County Park Commission. Partially paved recreation trails traverse the Wallace Brook and cross Jackson Brook on this easy hike. We will enjoy a relaxing stroll to Indian Falls, a scenic point of interest along the Green Trail, and take in the natural beauty of the park. As we aim to mitigate the pace of climate change, we need to find innovative solutions. Join us for an interesting look at tackling the climate crisis by mimicking nature. Dr. Serpil Guran, Director of the Rutgers EcoComplex Clean Energy Innovation Center will discuss a sustainable approach to managing organic waste (agricultural waste & pre-and-post-consumer food waste) through “circular carbon economy.” This is a closed-loop system where carbon emissions are reduced, reused, recycled and removed (the 4 Rs). Sunday Series Hike – Location TBD

Save the date! GSWA has planned a series of family-friendly Sunday hikes. Although this specific date is booked on our calendar, the location is not yet confirmed. We are checking out several new and exciting hiking trails and will confirm once we find just the right location. These family-friendly hikes provide an excellent opportunity to step outdoors and breathe in the crisp, cool air. Pack up your binoculars, water (in a reusable water bottle, of course) a snack, and whatever else keeps you comfortable for two hours in nature. Dress for the weather and wear your hiking boots. Be sure to check back periodically for the confirmed location. In the meantime, mark the date on your calendar!
