What’s New at the CMA / GSWA Annual Meeting

Join us for wine and cheese and see what we've been up to at our Conservation Management Area (CMA) on Tiger Lily Lane in Harding. Since our recent acquisition of 20 new acres, making our property over 70 contiguous acres, we have been busy! Work completed at the property from more than 2000 volunteer hours this year includes expanding our education areas to accommodate larger classes, felling more than 20 trees to block old hunting roads, creating 500 feet of boardwalk for trails, and planting 1000 native trees and shrubs. Hear about what else we've been working on as an organization. We are always hard at work on advocacy, education and water quality monitoring, in addition to our land preservation and stewardship efforts. Please join us. Like frogs? Hop on over to GSWA for a hands-on "citizen science" training session to become an official FrogWatch volunteer. Eric Jackson, Environmental Educator at Hartshorn Arboretum, will teach you how to distinguish between a spring peeper and a wood frog and how to identify many other local frogs and toads. Come out and learn about our amphibian friends and if you're so inspired, Eric will train you how to properly log and report your sightings in a nationwide database. Your observations are important! The information you collect helps establish long-term and large-scale data on amphibian populations. It's fun for the whole family, and this training session is free! Registration is required.

Join Megan Meiklejohn, Transparency Manager at EILEEN FISHER, as she digs into the unseen impacts of our clothing; from the farm to the dyehouse to your closet. Additionally, Claire Whitcomb, Madison Environmental Commission Chair and a longtime writer at EILEEN FISHER, will share the basics of building a mindful wardrobe. Learn how to: identify which fibers are most sustainable, shop for simple, quality clothes, and make sustainable choices about washing. At Great Swamp Watershed Association, we spend a lot of time in the water all year 'round examining what's going on along your stretch of the Passaic River and beyond. And with all the water quality monitoring we’ve conducted, we have lots of interesting information to share. Come get the low-down from GSWA Director of Water Quality, Sandra LaVigne, as she takes you on a virtual tour of the Passaic River from Mendham through Florham Park to Livingston. She will also outline the plan to expand our sampling on the Passaic further downstream to Little Falls and will provide a readout on GSWA's first full year of microplastics sampling.
