Free Native Pollinators Webinar Series Hosted by GSWA

MORRISTOWN, NEW JERSEY (January 9, 2023) — Great Swamp Watershed Association (GSWA) announced today they will host four free, monthly webinars focused on native plants and the essential role pollinators play in the ecosystem. This is in anticipation of the organization’s 3rd annual, online Native Plants for Pollinators sale taking place beginning on April 3 and running through April 28. GSWA has secured subject nationally acclaimed subject matter experts to lead each one-hour program. Registration and additional information can be found at GreatSwamp.org or 973-538-3500.

“I am excited to kick off our 2023 plant sale program with an expanded palette of webinars with these exciting, nationally recognized, and diverse speakers,” stated GSWA Director of Education and Outreach Hazel England. “By attending all the talks in this series, you will really build your knowledge about different groups of pollinators and how to support them throughout the year, beyond just planting our fabulous native plugs.”

Each webinar will offer a different component of pollinators and the pollination process. Following are the webinar dates, topics, and associated speakers:

January 17, 7-8 PM – Native Plants for Native Wildlife: Key Steps Toward Cultivating Biodiversity Conservation in our Gardens. Speaker: Desiree Narango, Conservation Scientist with the Vermont Center for Ecostudies

February 21, 7-8 PM – Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect. Speaker: Eric Eaton, Acclaimed writer and entomologist specializing in Hymenoptera (a large order of insects, comprising over 150,000 living species of sawflies, wasps, bees, and ants)

March 21, 7-8 PM – What’s the Buzz About Native Bees? Speaker: Heather Holm, biologist, pollinator conservationist, and award-winning author.

April 3, 12-1 PM – Native Plant Sale Product Overview. Speaker: Hazel England, GSWA Director of Education, Outreach, and Land Stewardship

GSWA’s online Native Pollinator Plant Sale opens Monday, April 3 at 1:00 PM and runs through end of business day April 28. Order pickup is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 with approximately 26 local location options.
