CANCELLED: Kids’ Outdoor Holiday Crafting: 2-3 PM

Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in New Jersey, we have cancelled this event.   Kids feeling crafty? We’ve got the solution - 3 nature-themed DIY projects for your child to keep or give away: 1) Hanging pinecone suet birdfeeder; 2) Decorated muslin produce and/or gift bag for use at the grocery store or as a gift bag; 3) Easy-make pollinator box (no sawing) to attract native bees to your yard. Brown paper will be on-hand to wrap the gifts. Hot chocolate and snacks available for the children. GSWA members $20, non-members $25. Price covers everything you need to leave with 3 finished pieces. While it’s a difficult time to shop, this outdoor crafting event offers a safe, socially distant opportunity for your child to get creative with wild-life friendly, natural items. Ideal for ages 6-12 - a parent or guardian must be present. (Limit: 6 people)

You may have heard we recently published a cookbook of our favorite pandemic recipes. We thought it would be fun to Zoom a meal together just in time for you to share with your family. Step aside Bobby Flay, our resident chefs, Hazel England and Sandra LaVigne, will entertain and teach as they guide you through the recipe from the start to a delicious finished meal. With all of us cooking from home a lot more these days, this is a fun way to do something together while fine-tuning our culinary skills on the “GSWA cooking channel.” If you have a copy of our GSWA Quarantine Cookbook, you can find the recipes on pages 20 and 78. Workshop: DIY Open Tray Bird Feeder

Feeding your neighborhood birds in the winter is a great way to entertain yourself and your family, and the birds really appreciate it! When you build a tray (hopper) feeder, you’ll attract birds like titmouse, chickadees, mockingbirds, mourning doves, and many more. This feeder is simple to construct and it will be ready to set up outside immediately. Here’s how it works: register for this virtual program, collect your kit from our office in a secure and safe way, then build the box at your leisure at home following our easy to follow, step-by-step instruction guide. Technical support is available should you require some help. All you will need is a hammer, the kit, and a little patience. Kit pickup will be determined on a case-by-case basis. POSTPONED: Perfect Your Flower Arrangement Skills on Zoom

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED We've all been there - we put a bunch of flowers in a vase imagining how great they will look. They don’t. We move them around and tilt our head. Nope. So, we walk away with plans to fix them. A week later, we toss these once cheery flowers in the trash. Let's change that behavior. Join Amy Seuberth, General Manager of Back to Nature Home & Garden, for a demo on how to arrange flowers in a pleasing way. She will also share tips on how to keep them healthier and looking more beautiful longer. The $40 fee covers your flowers, a mason jar vase, and expert tutorial. Seasonal flowers may include Seeded Eucalyptus, Mini Green Hydrangea, Thistle, Stock, Wax Flower, and others. Registration closes April 18 @ 5 PM to allow time for ordering flowers so, register today! We will supply you with everything you need to make and take your very own bamboo chimes and hang them when you get home. Bamboo is a fast-growing, invasive plant that is spreading rapidly through New Jersey. We're doing our part by removing them from our properties whenever possible. But why should it end there when we can turn that material into something serene and decorative? Because when life gives you bamboo, we say, make bamboo chimes! Space is limited so register today! Pollinator Box Workshop

Did you know some bees don’t live in hives? Come get the scoop about pollinator boxes and how they benefit the environment. This workshop will be “the bee’s knees!” (We apologize for that.) Join us for an evening of building, learning and all-around good fun as we talk about the importance of solitary bees and pollinator habitats to the ecosystem, and build a pollinator box of your own to take home! We will teach you about "eating local" as we walk you through three delicious recipes: Pumpkin gnocchi (from our GSWA cookbook), fresh mozzarella cheese, and a batch of fresh pesto. You may never go store-bought again! Feel free to bring your own adult beverages and we will provide non-alcoholic beverages. Nature-themed Holiday Cookies – Make & Decorate

Jump-start on your holiday baking during this DIY cookie workshop. It's sure to put you in the holiday spirit. First you will channel your inner artist by decorating pre-baked, nature-themed gingerbread and sugar cookies. All icing materials will be provided along with some decorating ideas to get your creative juices flowing. While these set, Hazel and Sandra, GSWA's resident bakers (and cookie eaters) will step you through making two different types of cookie dough that you can then take home and bake at your leisure. One is a Welsh Aberffraw dough - a type of shortbread cookie with a special twist. The other will be a delicious surprise. All you need to bring is your creativity (and an apron if you like) and we will provide the rest. You will leave with a dozen beautifully decorated cookies (6 gingerbread and 6 sugar) plus enough pre-made dough to bake up to another 2 dozen cookies at home. BAM! You're all set for the holidays!
