Workshop: DIY Open Tray Bird Feeder

Feeding your neighborhood birds in the winter is a great way to entertain yourself and your family, and the birds really appreciate it! When you build a tray (hopper) feeder, you’ll attract birds like titmouse, chickadees, mockingbirds, mourning doves, and many more. This feeder is simple to construct and it will be ready to set up outside immediately. Here’s how it works: register for this virtual program, collect your kit from our office in a secure and safe way, then build the box at your leisure at home following our easy to follow, step-by-step instruction guide. Technical support is available should you require some help. All you will need is a hammer, the kit, and a little patience. Kit pickup will be determined on a case-by-case basis. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED We've all been there - we put a bunch of flowers in a vase imagining how great they will look. They don’t. We move them around and tilt our head. Nope. So, we walk away with plans to fix them. A week later, we toss these once cheery flowers in the trash. Let's change that behavior. Join Amy Seuberth, General Manager of Back to Nature Home & Garden, for a demo on how to arrange flowers in a pleasing way. She will also share tips on how to keep them healthier and looking more beautiful longer. The $40 fee covers your flowers, a mason jar vase, and expert tutorial. Nature-themed Holiday Cookies – Make & Decorate

Jump-start on your holiday baking during this DIY cookie workshop. It's sure to put you in the holiday spirit. First you will channel your inner artist by decorating pre-baked, nature-themed gingerbread and sugar cookies. All icing materials will be provided along with some decorating ideas to get your creative juices flowing. While these set, Hazel and Sandra, GSWA's resident bakers (and cookie eaters) will step you through making two different types of cookie dough that you can then take home and bake at your leisure. One is a Welsh Aberffraw dough - a type of shortbread cookie with a special twist. The other will be a delicious surprise. All you need to bring is your creativity (and an apron if you like) and we will provide the rest. You will leave with a dozen beautifully decorated cookies (6 gingerbread and 6 sugar) plus enough pre-made dough to bake up to another 2 dozen cookies at home. BAM! You're all set for the holidays! Come learn about the benefits of foraging for edible invasive (non-native) species like garlic mustard. Garlic mustard is one of the worst invaders of Northeast and Midwest American forests, reducing the diversity of all species. April through end of May is garlic mustard season so you will be able to easily find it to make your own pesto. Come learn about these and other types of plants where we can reduce their presence simply by eating them outright or adding them to a salad! You will receive instruction on how to identify, prepare, and preserve these free greens so you can safely hunt for these delicious invasives while cleaning up your yard! Foraged and homemade treats will be provided. This program is offered in partnership with GSWA and the Kemmerer Library of Harding Twp. Friday, July 7 from 6:30-9:00 PM at the Morris Museum, Morristown, NJ Water Workshop Weekends kick off on Friday, July 7 with the critically acclaimed and star-filled movie, Dark Waters at the Morris Museum’s Bickford Theatre, followed by a panel discussion about PFAS chemicals in our waterways. The film tells the shocking and heroic true story of attorney, Rob Bilott, portrayed by Mark Ruffalo, who risks his career and family to uncover a dark secret hidden by one of the world’s largest corporations. He seeks to bring justice to a community that has been dangerously exposed to toxic chemicals for decades. The post film panel will provoke lively discussion on the movie and this timely topic.
